AMS DEPTH PROFILING OF LOW TRITIUM AND DEUTERIUM CONCENTRATIONS FOR APPLICATIONS IN ENVIRONMENTAL PHYSICS AND DIAGNOSE IN FUSSION EXEPERIMENTS proiecte.nipne.ro/ceex/35-projects.html
Acronym: AMS-PROFILING Number / Date of the contract: CALIST 6104/03.10.05 / 03.10.2005 modul 1 Project Manager: Catalin Stan-Sion Partners: National Research and Development Institute for Cryogenics and Isotopic Technologies - ICSI Rm.Valcea; University of Bucharest; University "Politehnica" of Bucharest Starting date / finishing date: 2005-10-03 / 2008-08-20 Project value: 1400000 RON Abstract: AMS ( Accelerator Mass Spectrometry ) is actually the nano-technology with the highest sensitivity for the currently known analyses:10-15 (regarding the ratio isotope/element). The method has the capability to select one atom in a surrounding environment of more than one million of billions of other atoms. More over, AMS is able to perform the depth profiling of the invested materials, which is very important for the applications with tritium and deuterium. The proposal project follows to use the AMS nano-technology to investigate migrations and distributions of T and D in the bulk of components or materials from technological systems. It will measure and monitor their concentration in the vicinity of nuclear power plants or in the close environment of nuclear reprocessing power plants. Very important is to determine if such infiltration of T and D occur in water or soil. On the other hand, the ability of AMS to perform depth profiling permits the determination of the incident energy of the incoming particles. Thus, AMS depth profiling proved to be an efficient diagnose tool in fusion experiments like the TOKAMAC facilities JET- Great Britain and ASDEX- Upgrade - Germany. This goal of investigating fusion reactions is performed in an international cooperation and all results are going to be used for the ITER project.
