Abstract: THE PROJECT INTENDS TO PROVE THE EXISTANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF A NUCLEAR-TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF THE NUCLEAR MATTER, BY MEANS OF ITS CONSIDERATION IN THE FRAME OF THE DOUBLE FOLDING (DF) MODEL OF THE OPTICAL MODEL POTENTIAL AND ITS FURTHER INVOLVEMENT IN STUDIES OF FAST-NEUTRON INDUCED REACTION CROSS SECTIONS. THE PARTICULAR OBJECTIVES CONCERN THE UNDERSTANDING, ON THE BASIS OF THE NUCLEAR-TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF THE MATTER DENSITY, OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ALPHA-PARTICLE OPTICAL POTENTIALS ESTABLISHED BY (A) THE ALPHA-PARTICLE ELASTIC SCATTERING ANALYSIS, AND (B) THE ALPHA-PARTICLE EMISSION IN FAST-NEUTRON INDUCED REACTIONS AT LOW AND MEDIUM ENERGIES. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS PROJECT RESULTS, BEYOND THE BASIC NATURE OF THE SUBJECT, WILL BE RELATED TO THE NEEDS OF NUCLEAR-ENGINEERING DESIGN (FOR ACCURATE ESTIMATION OF THE RADIATION DAMAGE DUE TO THE HELIUM PRODUCTION) AS WELL AS TO NUCLEAR ASTROPHYSICS OF LARGE ACTUAL INTEREST. MOREOVER, THE ESTIMATED IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT FOLLOWS THE ABOVE-MENTIONED IMPORTANCE FOR (A) BASIC RESEARCH, RELATED TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE NUCLEAR MATTER DENSITY, (B) ECONOMY AND MEDIUM, DUE TO THE IMMEDIATE USE WITHIN THE EU NUCLEAR FUSION PROGRAMME FOR CALCULATION OF THE (N,ALPHA) REACTION CROSS SECTIONS, AND (C) SOCIETY, DUE TO THE LOCALLY INVOLVEMENT IN THE RESEARCH AREA OF YOUNG PEOPLE AS MASTER AND PHD STUDENTS, IN ACTIVITIES STILL FEASIBLE IN THE GIVEN SPECIFIC TECHNICAL CONDITIONS AND ALSO AT AN EUROPEAN SCIENTIFIC LEVEL.
