Abstract: The present proposal is devoted to the study of the structure of neutron-rich nuclei in the vicinity of N=40. Shell structure predictions towards the neutron and proton drip-lines provide indispensable input to model the rapid neutron and proton capture for nucleosynthesis processes. Furthermore, the evolution of shell structure far from stability line has become a key topic of nuclear structure studies as it is intimately related to the monopole part of the residual nucleon-nucleon interaction and its origin in one-boson exchange potentials. For instance, shell gap evolutions have been recently ascribed to the strongly attractive (repulsive) tensor force acting between protons and neutrons with opposite (similar) orientation of their intrinsic spin with respect to their angular momentum. In this new light, the importance of gaining a better understanding of the evolution of nuclear structure along the nickel isotopic chain far from stability should not be understated. The shell model puts forward a magic nature for 78Ni, but an experimental assessment is still out of reach. Yet a departure from the conjectured rigidity of 78Ni is likely to affect its neighboring nuclei and the quest for observable signatures drives many experimental efforts at nuclear physics laboratories worldwide. One of the major aims of this project is to study the evolution of the neutron g9/2 orbital with increasing number of neutrons which is one of the key points defining the structure of these nuclei at low excitation energy. For this purpose we aim to combine CE and gamma spectroscopy method to establish the multipolarity of transitions and firmly assign the spins of neutron rich nuclei below 78Ni.

Objectives: The aim of the project is to study neutron rich nuclei in order to obtain information about the monopole interaction (n-p) by filling the uni-particle shells.
Estimated results:
- Performing experiments of combined gamma/electron spectroscopy to identify level schemes in neutron rich nuclei around Z=28.
- Performing shell model calculations
to describe the obtained results. - Results dissemination.
