Abstract: THE TRADITIONAL FIELDS OF ATOMIC AND NUCLEAR PHYSICS ARE SPECTROSCOPY (STUDY OF BOUND STATES) AND COLLISIONS/REACTIONS (STUDY OF CONTINUUM: RESONANT AND SCATTERING STATES). THE FRONTIER BETWEEN THE TWO FIELDS CORRESPONDS TO BREAKING THRESHOLD OF A PARTICLE (ELECTRON OR NUCLEON) FROM ATOM OR NUCLEUS. BELOW THRESHOLD, WEAKLY BOUND STATES, SPATIALLY EXTENDED; ABOVE THRESHOLD LOW ENERGY RESONANCES EMBEDED IN CONTINUUM OF SCATTERING STATES.
THE TRANSITION ZONE DISCRET-CONTINUUM IS INTERESTING PHENOMENA LANDSCAPE: 1. HALO NUCLEI; BORROMEAN NUCLEI, 2. RYDBERG ELECTRON STATES, 3. NUCLEAR SUBTHRESHOLD RESONANCE; ASTROPHYSICAL IMPLICATIONS, 4. SINGLE PARTICLE RESONANCES IN MULTICHANNEL REACTIONS, 5. STRENGTH FUNCTION OF SINGLE PARTICLE STATES, 6. NEUTRON DRIP LINE: MEAN FIELDS OF NEUTRON-RICH NUCLEI. THE AIM OF THE PRESENT PROJECT IS STUDY OF THE ABOVE TYPES OF PHENOMENA DEVELOPING NEAR THRESHOLD ENERGY. THIS PROJECT IS A NATURAL CONTINUATION OF OUR PREVIOUS WORKS ON THRESHOLD PHENOMENA: 1. BORROMEAN NUCLEI - RELATION TO NEUTRON VIRTUAL STATES, 2. MULTICHANNEL QUANTUM DEFECT THEORY (MQDT) - RELATION TO LEVEL MATRIX, 3. NUCLEAR THRESHOLD STATES OF ASTROPHYSICAL INTEREST, 4. R-MATRIX/MQDT APPROACH TO SINGLE PARTICLE RESONANCES, 5. NUCLEAR SYSTEMATICS OF WEAKLY BOUND SINGLE PARTICLE STATES OF LIGHT NEUTRON RICH NUCLEI.
ONE CAN ESTIMATE, TAKING IN ACCOUNT OUR EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCE IN THE FIELD, A SUCCESFULL APPROACH OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED PHYSICAL TOPICS.
