Abstract: ONE PROPOSES NUCLEAR SPECTROSCOPY STUDIES PERFORMED WITH DIRECT TRANSFER REACTIONS WITH POLARIZED LIGHT PROJECTILES, AND UNPRECEDENTED ENERGY RESOLUTION. TRANSFER REACTIONS OF THE TYPE (D,P), (D,T), (P,T), WILL BE STUDIED ON THIN (LESS THAN 100 MICROGR/CM2) MONOISOTOPIC TARGETS, BY USING POLARIZED BEAMS DELIVERED BY THE TANDEM ACCELERATOR OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY IN MUNICH, AND DETECTING THE REACTION PRODUCTS WITH AN INSTALLATION OF UNIQUE PERFORMANCES: THE Q3D SPECTROMETER WITH A FOCAL PLANE DETECTOR OF HIGH POSITION RESOLUTION. THE UNPRECEDENTED HIGH ENERGY RESOLUTION ( AROUND 6 KEV) WILL ALLOW THE OBSERVATION OF A LARGE NUMBER OF NEW EXCITED STATES, UP TO EXCITATION ENERGIES WITH MEDIUM/HIGH LEVEL DENSITY. THE MEASURED ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS AND ASYMMETRIES WILL ALLOW UNAMBIGUOUS ASSIGNMENTS OF SPIN, PARITY, AND SPECTROSCOPIC FACTORS FOR MOST OF THE LEVELS. IN A FIRST STAGE SUCH STUDIES ARE PROPOSED ON THE LIGHT BARIUM ISOTOPES 130 AND 132, A NUCLEAR REGION INSUFFICIENTLY STUDIED. ITS OUTSTANDING INTEREST IS GIVEN BY THE FACT THAT HERE ONE MAY ENCOUNTER A CRITICAL PHASE TRANSITION BETWEEN VIBRATIONAL AND GAMMA-SOFT NUCLEI (CORRESPONDING TO THE U(5) AND O(6) LIMITS OF THE INTERACTING BOSON MODEL), THE CRITICAL POINT BEING THE THE SO-CALLED E(5) SYMMETRY. THE PROPERTIES OF THIS TRANSITION, AND ESPECIALLY ITS IMPACT IN THE ODD-MASS NUCLEI (WHERE, FOR EXAMPLE, DUE TO THE CRITICAL POINT E(5) ONE MAY ENCOUNTER FEATURES OF A SUPERSYMMETRY SCHEME NAMED E(5/4)) ARE LITTLE KNOWN. IN THIS RESPECT, THE NEWLY OBTAINED STRUCTURE DATA ARE EXPECTED TO BRING A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION. SECONDLY, ONE PROPOSES EXPLORATIVE MEASUREMENTS OF TRANSFER REACTIONS OF THE ABOVE TYPE, IN INVERSE KINEMATICS (HEAVY BEAM ON LIGHT TARGET), WITH STABLE BEAMS IN A FIRST STAGE, IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH AN APPROPRIATE METHOD FOR THE FUTURE STUDIES OF EXOTIC NUCLEI AT THE RADIOACTIVE BEAM FACILITIES.

Objectives:

THE STAGES OF THE PROJECT AND DELIVERY DATES
1. Study of the structure of the 130Ba nucleus via the two-nucleon transfer reaction 132Ba(p,t)130Ba (2007-12-15)
2. Test measurements of transfer reactions in inverse kinematics with a medium mass stable beam (2008-05-30)
3. Structure of the 133Ba nucleus via the 132Ba(pol_d,p) reaction; test of the supersymmetric scheme E(5/4). (2008-12-10)
4. Systematics of the monoploe (0+) and quadrupole (2+) excitations in the Barium isotopes, through the (p,t) transfer reaction.  (2009-05-30)
5. Structure of the 131Ba nucleus through the 132Ba(pol_d,t) reaction; tests of the IBFM model. (2009-12-10)
6. High precision measurements with one- or two-nucleon transfer reactions, with polarized beams, on other medium-mass nuclei. (2010-08-01)
