Abstract: The use of radioactive beams opens a new frontier for fusion studies. the exotic nuclei could have extremely different properties and are expected to behave differently fron stable, well bound, nuclei especially at the coulomb barrier. Experiments will be performed with beams of nuclei at or near the proton and neutron drip-lines to measure fusion and associated reactions in the vicinity of the coulomb barrier. The fusion yield is predicted to be enhanced in reactions involving neutron richer unstable nuclei. In this respect we intend also to study the features of the reactions induced by proton rich 17F and 8B radioactive nuclei around coulomb barrier energies. We mention that only three proton rich nuclei are known to have halo structure: 17F (in his first excited state), 8B and 17Ne. The 17F and 8B radioactive secondary beams will be produced at the exotic beam line at INFN-LNL (Italy). The interplay between the halo structure, which should lead to an enhancement of the fusion cross section, and the small binding energies (typically less than 1 MeV for this loosely bound nuclei), which could remove flux from the fusion channel, will be investigated.
As well, given the top position in the actual interests of the nuclear physics of the theoretical approaches concerning the punctual dynamic symmetries and of the correlation of those with the interacting boson-fermion models, a special objective will be the extent of the dynamic symmetry schemes to the odd or odd-odd nuclei. In this sense, an important role is played by the measurements to establish the energy levels scheme of the nuclei, as well as, once these are established, the determination of their properties by measurements of the lifetimes and, by consequence, transition probabilities between levels.
