STUDY OF NEUTRINO AND AXION EMISSION PROCESSES IN NEUTRON STARS proiecte.nipne.ro/pn2/76-projects.html Extended website: http://zamolxes.theory.nipne.ro/id_975
Acronym: ID_975 Contracting Authority: Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI) Number / Date of the contract: PN2-563 / 14.01.2009 Idei Project Manager: Sabin Stoica Partners: Starting date / finishing date: 2009-01-14 / 2012-01-14 Project value: 1000000 RON Abstract: THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS A RIGUROUS STUDY OF THE NEUTRINO AND AXION EMISSION PROCESSES IN NEUTRON STARS, MORE SPECIFIC DEVELOPING A MODEL AND A METHOD FOR A MORE ACCURATE CALCULATION OF THE EMISSIVITIES OF THESE PARTICLES. THE REACTIONS WHICH ARE PRODUCED IN A NEUTRON STAR ARE VERY INTERESTING BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME PHYSICAL CONDITIONS PRESENT HERE (TEMPERATURE, DENSITY, MAGNETIC FIELDS, ETC.), IMPOSIBLE TO CREATE IN A TERRESTRIAL LABORATORY. THEIR STUDY WOULD ALLOW A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR STRUCTURE AND EVOLUTION, OF THE PHYSICAL DETECTION CONDITIONS AND GENERALLY, OF THE INTERESTING REACTIONS THAT ARE PRODUCED HERE, OF THE COMPOSITION OF MATTER IN THE UNIVERSE. NEUTRINOS, PARTICLES WITH STILL UNKNOWN FUNDAMENTAL PROPERTIES, ARE A VERY ATTRACTIVE SUBJECT OF RESEARCH FOR MOST OF THE PARTICLE PHYSICISTS FOR THE PAST FEW DECADES BECAUSE OF THEIR KEY ROLE IN MANY DOMAINS OF PHYSICS: ELEMENTARY PARTICLE PHYSICS, NUCLEAR PHYSICS, ASTROPHYSICS AND COSMOLOGY. AXIONS ARE THE FITTEST CANDIDATE FOR THE COMPOSITION OF THE SO-CALLED DARK-MATTER, DETERMINATION OF ITS COMPOSITION BEING ONE OF TOP RESEARCH TOPIC IN THE WORLD. IN THIS PROJECT,THE MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE:I) WE CONCENTRATE ON UPGRADING EXISTENT MODELS, FOR THE DTERMINATION OF THE EMISSION RATES OF THESE PARTICLES IN NUCLEONIC BREMSSTRAHLUNG INTERACTIONS, BY INCLUDING THE PRECISE CONTRIBUTION OF NN INTERACTION (BY OPEP AND TPEP INTERACTION POTENTIALS) AND CONSIDER THE FULL DEPENDENCE OF THIS INTERACTION AS A FUNCTION OF NUCLEONS MOMENTUM; II) DEVELOP NUMERIC CODES FOR THE MULTIPLE INTEGRALS WHICH APPEAR IN THE EMISSION RATES FORMULAS; III) INTERPRETATION OF THE OBTAINED RESULTS; RECONSIDERATION OF THE NUCLEONIC BREMSSTRAHLUNG INTERACTIONS AS SOURCES OF NEUTRINO AND AXION PRODUCTION; IV) CONSOLIDATE THE TEAM'S INPUT IN INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS LIKE LAGUNA AND ILIAS (FROM ASPERA); V) PUBLICATE THE RESULTS IN ISI SCIENTIFIC REVIEWS AND FINISH DISERTATION AND DOCTORAL THESIS OF THE TEAM'S YOUNG RESEARCHERS.
Objectives:
THE STAGES OF THE PROJECT AND DELIVERY DATES 1. Detailed studies on neutrino an axion emission reactions and NN interaction models (2009-09-15) 2. Analytic calculations of the nuclear structure parts implicated in the emission rates formulas (2009-12-15) 3. Estimation of the effects of non-inclusion the nuclear corelations (2010-06-01) 4. Construction of a model for the evaluation of the neutrino and axion emissivities in nucleonic bremsstrahlung reactions (2010-10-31) 5. Numerical calculations and analysis of the results in both (D) and (ND) cases, for all types of interactions (neutron-neutron, proton-proton, neutron-proton), for neutrinos and axions (2011-06-01) 6. Extending the use of the presented method; results dissemination (2011-10-31) RESULTS PUBLISHED ARTICLES RESEARCH TEAM
