Abstract: This project is focused on starting a program to study light ion-ion fusion mechanisms at very low energies, motivated by nuclear astrophysics. The most important in this category are the reactions between 12C and 16O nuclei. They define stellar scenarios in various important evolution phases of massive stars. At the energies they occur in stellar environments, these reaction are strongly inhibited by Coulomb repulsion, which makes their direct measurement difficult or impossible. Their study requires indirect methods which rely on accurate theoretical models. This project involves a series of experiments that will take place at the 3 MV Tandetron at IFIN-HH, aimed to study, among others, the critical 12C+16O reaction in order to expand the existing fusion reaction experimental database and help improve existing theoretical models on the mechanisms involved.

Objectives: - Determination of the experimental fusion cross-section of the reaction 13C+16O and comparison with the existing fusion theoretical models.
- Depending on the beam time received at PAC, determination of the experimental fusion cross-section of the reaction 13C+16O and comparison with the existing fusion theoretical models.
