Abstract: The project proposes the development of a primary activity standard system for PET radionuclides produced and/or used in Romania and study of their decay scheme parameters. The radionuclides proposed to be studied are: 68Ga, 18F, 67Cu and 124I.
For each radionuclide, the following actions are envisaged:
(i) Obtaining of radionuclides in the IFIN-HH, CRR or U120 cyclotrone, or from import;(ii) Radionuclide purity characterisation;(iii) Development of the methods for absolute standardization with a good precision, of the order of 1 - 2% and comparison of several methods, usually coincidence and liquid scintillation methods;(iv) Precise determination of the decay scheme parameters: half life and emission intensity of gamma-rays, based on the absolutely standardized radioactive solutions and gamma-ray spectrometry;(v) Metrological traceability chain establishment by: calibration of the IFIN-HH secondary standards - ionization chamber CENTRONIC IG12/20A and Gamma-ray spectrometer, and calibration of the measurement equipment used in CRR-IFIN-HH and in PET/CT nuclear medicine units;(vi) Participation at studies on the biodistribution for new PET- RPMs; (vii) Preparation for future CIPM-MRA, BIPM key- or supplementary key- comparisons, after its end; (viii) Publication of results
